New Wet Rooms at Royal Court Care Homes

- Written by Ash Bath

Rosemary-Smith-at-Royal-Court-229x218Deputy Manager Rosemary joined a new management team at Bromford Housing’s Royal Court care home in 2011. With 43 flats over 6 floors and residents reaching up to 98 years the care home provides 24 hour care with meals and laundry service being provided.

Being built in 1987 the home was beginning to look a little tired and needed a revamp. A program was put in place to carry out refurbishments and began with all communal areas being re-carpeted. The second stage involved complete refurbishment of all bathrooms creating a wet room environment for each resident. Bathrooms included AKW Tuff Form® formers, shower screens, digital pumps, natural grip grab rails and raised height toilets.

Taking 3 months, with an average of only 3 days to complete each adaptation the process was very well executed and caused minimum disruption. The majority of the bathrooms previously had baths and therefore for many residents the installation of a wet room has provided extra security and independence.

“It has enabled some residents to regain a level of independence they had lost. The bathrooms now look really lovely”
