Prime Minister David Cameron announced there will be a £300m investment into researching dementia. Describing the illness as “one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime”, Mr Cameron explained the plan to create an international dementia institute over the next 5 years, which he believes will make the UK a world leader in dementia research.
As part of the investment approximately 1.3 million NHS staff will receive vital training on how to properly care for patients who have dementia. This investment is a welcome one and seems like a real step on the way to one day delivering a cure for this condition.
Dementia is a real problem that is affecting an ever increasing number of individuals and families not only in the UK but around the world.
