Retro-Fit Grab-a-Rail Makes Mrs F’s Kitchen Safer

Launched in 2023, the Grab-a-Rail is a lightweight kitchen support rail system which has been designed to give people increased independence and reduce the risk of falls when moving around the kitchen.

The Grab-a-Rail is quick and easy to install and can be ordered as part of a new AKW Accessible Kitchen, or separately, as the rail can also be retro-fitted into an existing kitchen – just like it was for Mrs F.

97-year-old Mrs F suffered from a fall in her kitchen back in October 2023; once she was back on her feet at home, her daughter, a retired GP, and son-in-law, a retired Orthopaedic surgeon, set out to find ways to make the kitchen a safer space for her to use.

They came across the Grab-a-Rail online and were amazed by its simple yet effective design, which they realised could offer an invaluable solution for their mother. After reaching out to inventor Steve Michael, photos of the kitchen were sent for Steve to assess, and an order was placed with AKW. The Grab-a-Rail was then retro-fitted by ‘Senior Home Solutions’, providing Mrs F with a stable and reliable support system to help her use the kitchen safely with confidence and independence.
