History

Over 35 years old, and still leading the market

Back in the 1980s, AKW started as a small Worcestershire business on a local trading estate. Since then we’ve grown into an international operation with:

Anthony Keith Webb (A.K.W.) had been trying to find a suitable level access shower tray for his elderly mother without success.  There seemed to be very few products on the market which he considered adequate to meet his mother’s needs.

Frustrated by the lack of suitable products, he set about manufacturing his own shower tray, coming up with his own designs, which he patented, and joining forces with a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) manufacturer who could build it. They incorporated the business in 1988.

Demand for the product from local authorities quickly grew and the business went from strength to strength, developing a range of specialist products for those with restricted mobility, from shower screens to accessible kitchens.

Over 28 years later, AKW now employs over 260 people and is the UK’s leading manufacturer of accessible bathroom, kitchen and daily living products.

We supply the majority of social landlords, local authorities and care and nursing homes in the UK, as well as national merchants such as Wolseley, Travis Perkins, Tool Station and partners such as Age UK.

All these years later we are still driven by the same principles on which the business was founded. To support independent living with superior quality products that are practical, safe, beautifully designed and which improve quality of life by creating stylish living spaces.

Now Contour Showers Ltd. has been acquired and becomes part of AKW Holdings Group
