1. AKW and Contour Showers Ltd Merged!
At the start of 2023, many departments at AKW and Contour merged, with all colleagues now working under one brand, following the acquisition of Contour Showers Ltd in 2022.
We’ve got more exciting news to share too, our brand-new purpose-built manufacturing facility and showroom in Middlewich, Cheshire will open in 2024!
2. New Additions to the AKW Accessible Kitchens Range
This year we launched the AKW ActivMotion Glide Wall Unit, which brings the contents of your wall cupboard down and outwards to allow someone in a wheelchair easier access.
Then this summer we introduced the Grab-a-Rail, a simple yet innovative solution designed by West Midlands’ inventor, Steve Michael, to help people navigate around the kitchen safely.
3. We Took Steps to Become a More Inclusive Employer
AKW achieved Disability Confident Employer status and we also signed the Age-friendly Employer Pledge, a nationwide programme run by the Centre for Ageing Better, to make workplaces age-friendly.
We also implemented a new recruitment system which has transformed our candidate experience and made applications faster and more inclusive!
4. We Attended Over 40 Events!
We’ve been to summits, conferences, roadshows, exhibitions, and charity events across the country, and have met everyone from OTs to councils and contractors.
Some highlights include the Foundations DFG Assessment Summit in May, CIH Housing & PFH Live in July, the Care Show in October, and the OT Show in November!
5. We Produced Lots of New Brochures & Guides!
This includes our Guide to Creating Leak-Resistant Wet Rooms, a brochure on the new generation of AKW Electric Showers, and our Guide To Successful Wheelchair Accessible Kitchen Design!
6. AKW Volunteered with Helping Hands!
AKW Helping Hands enables colleagues to engage with volunteering projects in their local communities.
67 days were spent volunteering in 2023, which saw our team members muck out animal pens, build wildlife enclosures, paint fences, sort through charity donations, and help care home residents with Christmas crafts!
7. We Celebrated Long Service!
Did you know 57% of AKW colleagues have been with us for 5 years or more, with 8% boasting over 20 years’ service!
This includes General Manager & Technical Dir., Paul Tingey; Engineering Dir., Yanchun Wang; Logistics Dir., Matt Till; Product Data Manager, Mark Luxton; National & Independent Merchant Dir, Vince Moorton, and Product Design Engineer, Jim Self, who recently celebrated long service anniversaries

9. AKW Achieved an EcoVadis Silver Medal!
As part of our ESG journey, we submitted our first assessment to EcoVadis, a globally recognised platform that rates corporate sustainability based on environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement practices.
We were awarded a Silver Medal, putting us in the top 15% of companies in our industry, and the top 25% of companies who’ve been assessed!
10. AKW Supported Warrington Disability Partnership!
This year we’re incredibly lucky to have worked with our 2023 charity partner, Warrington Disability Partnership, on a number of exciting projects!
We sponsored and exhibited at their 31st annual Disability Awareness Day, supported their Charity Golf Day, and got glammed up for their Charity Ball!
11. AKW & XPO Delivered!
2023 was another brilliant year for deliveries, with 99.15% of orders delivered on time and in full between Jan-Nov, thanks to our partnership with logistics provider XPO.
12. AKW Helped to Make Life Better
Throughout 2023 we’ve supported a variety of charities, good causes, and vulnerable people in our local communities, and had a fantastic time doing so.
Colleagues ran for Cancer Research UK, baked for Macmillan and Acorns Children’s Hospice, bought raffle tickets in aid of vulnerable children in Worcestershire and St Richard’s Hospice, quizzed for Dementia UK, donned festive jumpers for Save the Children, wore yellow for Endometriosis UK, collected 276 Easter eggs for local children, hospital patients, and care home residents, regularly donated to food banks, and spent 67 days volunteering.
We have also donated an accessible kitchen to Band of Builders, sponsored Warrington Disability Partnership’s annual Disability Awareness Day and charity dinner events, helped raised funds at the WDP Charity Golf Day, and made donations to Cash for Kids and a Christmas raffle held by Sanctuary Care in Worcestershire.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we’re very proud to announce that a grand total of £23,584 has been raised and/or donated by AKW and DLP in 2023!
From everyone at AKW and DLP, thank you for your continued custom and invaluable support these last 12 months; we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.
