AKW Celebrate Halloween with Residents at Astley Hall Care Home

- Written by Laura

On Wednesday 22nd October 2025, two volunteers from AKW in Droitwich Spa spent their working day celebrating Halloween with residents at Astley Hall Care Home.

Part of the Heritage Manor group in Stourport-upon-Severn, Worcestershire, Astley Hall is a quintessential English country house set within beautiful grounds, who offer residential and nursing care, with a specialist dementia unit.

AKW’s Jo and Sara volunteered to help residents get in the spooky spirit by assisting them with creating their own pumpkin lanterns. After the residents had drawn their scary faces, the ladies lent a hand with carving and the messy job of removing the seeds and stringy pulp!

In the afternoon, our volunteers hosted a Halloween quiz and helped staff serve residents tea and cake. Sara – whose mother is also a resident –thoroughly enjoyed her experience, noting that everyone involved had a lovely day, with both her and Jo finding it a throroughly rewarding way to spend some time outside of the office.

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” – Sara, AKW.

The Helping Hands volunteering scheme was set up in 2022 and encourages colleagues from across the business to get involved with charities and good causes in their area, with two paid volunteering days per year offered to all colleagues.

So far in 2025, the AKW and DLP team have spent 75 days volunteering across the UK and Isle of Man, with projects taking us across the country from farms to wildlife reserves, community events to care homes! Read more about our recent projects here.

In addition, AKW recently donated an electric care shower to Astley Hall, as the previous model was broken, rendering their downstairs showering space unavailable for use by residents; read more about product donations to good causes.
