On Thursday 9th June, AKW took part in a maths careers fair organised by staff from six Severn Academies Educational Trust primary schools in and around the Wyre Forest area.
Held at Stourport Civic Centre, approximately 360 students from across years 5/6 attended the event to learn about how maths plays a pivotal role in many different careers, with support shown by volunteers from several regional businesses.
Representing AKW, Marketing Executive Laura Rae and Commercial Finance Manager Richard Harding explained how maths is a key element of their roles, and for all departments across the international business, from Engineering and Logistics to Human Resources and Customer Services.
As well as showing how maths is used daily by those in Marketing and Commercial Finance, Laura and Richard also engaged the children with an activity that required them to identify and extract data using a pie chart depicting an example marketing budget. The task challenged the children’s mental arithmetic but was well-received by all involved and proved how essential maths will be in their futures.
