22 Dec 2022
As 2022 draws to a close, a year in which we have celebrated numerous achievements across AKW, DLP, and Contour Showers Limited, we would like to say thank you and Merry Christmas to all who have supported us these last twelve months.
We have invested significantly in our Environmental, Social and Governance strategies, with our teams working diligently to transform ideas into actions that not only strive to benefit our customers, but our team members, local communities, and the environment.
One area we have collectively excelled in this year, is coming together to raise money for, and donating our time and effort to an array of charities and good causes.
At AKW, a company-wide volunteering scheme was launched which will see regional teams of employees use 300 days of additional holiday to take part in charitable initiatives to help make a difference in their local area. The first project saw our northwest volunteers become elves at Warrington Disability Partnership’s Santa’s Grotto event, a magical experience which was enjoyed and appreciated by all involved.
Earlier on in the year, head office employees raised £3423 (with an additional £675 in gift aid) by running the Pretty Muddy 5K at Worcester Racecourse, with two quiz nights raising £356 for Dementia UK, and £364 collected in aid of Macmillan’s Coffee Morning and Save the Children UK’s Christmas Jumper Day.
AKW also donated 135 Easter eggs to two nearby children’s charities and a care home, with five boxes of food donated since October, following the installation of food bank collection points at head office sites.
In addition to raising £167 for Macmillan’s annual Coffee Morning and sponsoring pages in publications produced by Hospice Isle of Man, staff at DLP donated Easter Eggs to independent Manx charity The Children’s Centre and Isle of Man Foodbank, the latter of whom recently received their annual donation of everyday essentials and festive treats to help those in need over the Christmas period.
Several members of the team also helped lay 10 tonnes of stone along Archallagan Trail Park’s forest trails and took part in a beach clean, with both activities helping to make the island cleaner and safer for residents and tourists alike.
Finally, our newest colleagues from Contour Showers Limited baked for the Macmillan Coffee Morning and raised £157, with £56 collected in aid of Save the Children UK’s Christmas Jumper Day, and a Christmas food donation arranged for The Salvation Army.
With many exciting initiatives to look forward to in 2023, we would like to take the opportunity to do one more good deed before ringing in the New Year.
For several years we have sent Christmas cards to our customers to thank them for their support and wish them well over the festive season. This year, with our focus on sustainability and giving to others in mind, we will instead be making charitable donations to some fantastic causes.
£1000 will be donated to dementia care and research charity Alzheimer’s Society; the cost of living has and continues to affect us all, but for those living with or caring for those with dementia, this has led to even higher care costs and rising loneliness, leaving more people at risk of crisis this winter.
£1000 will also be donated to Burnley-based DEPHER CIC UK; founded by tradesman James Anderson in 2017, Disabled and Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Repair provides free plumbing and heating care, as well as food bank shops and assistance with utility bills for vulnerable residents after James found too many examples of those most in need being taken advantage of by rogue traders.
With these final donations, this brings our collective total of funds raised for charity this year to £7,200.77, a feat we are extremely proud of and are already hoping to surpass in 2023.
On behalf of all of us at AKW, DLP, and Contour Showers Limited, thank you once again for your continued custom and invaluable support throughout 2022, we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.
