Shaun Green: AKW’s Marathon Man

- Written by AKW Ltd

Shaun Green, IT Support Engineer from AKW is celebrating a mammoth achievement having completed a total of six marathons throughout 2022.

At the start of this year, Shaun challenged himself to run five marathons while fundraising for Breast Cancer Research Aid, a cause very close to his heart.

Shaun made a fantastic start with Brighton Marathon in early April, before jetting off to the USA to take part in the world famous 126th Boston Marathon just a week later. Describing his experience in Boston as “incredible”, Shaun achieved times of 3hrs 5m in both races, even though they were on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

In June, Shaun took part in the Salomon Trail Marathon in Snowdonia, Wales, which takes in a fully marked trail single track, forest roads, and paths in stunning forest surroundings. Despite having the 4000ft elevation to contend with, Shaun set out to enjoy the unique nature of the course and passed the finish line in just over four hours, later commenting on how beautiful the route was.

After a summer of relentless training, Shaun boarded a plane to Berlin at the end of September for the BMW Berlin Marathon, during which he managed to achieve a personal best of 2hrs 46m – shaving a massive 11m off his previous record.

With only a week to rest, on 2nd October Shaun joined AKW Business Development Manager Craig Hateley in London for the TCS London Marathon, his fifth – but not final – race of the year.

With what must be legs of steel, Shaun then ran a sixth marathon in Amsterdam on 16th October, successfully completing three marathons in just 21 days.

Even with this momentous achievement under his belt, several medals around his neck, and nearly £900 raised for charity, Shaun isn’t hanging up his trainers just yet, as he prepares for marathons in Seville and Chicago in 2023.

Congratulations Shaun and best of luck next year!
